Application Day to Move-In Day
Following are the steps involved in building your home the mutual self-help way with Northwest Housing Development.

  • Fill out then submit your application for review.
  • Incomplete applications are returned.
  • Complete applications are reviewed for eligibility. Income must be below 80% of the median income for your county and at least $20,000.
  • You and a Group Coordinator will review your application, discuss your credit history and talk about the program to ensure it's the right fit for your household.
  • In-office loan pre-qualification evaluation to help ensure your loan application will be approved by the lender.
  • You choose the area you want to live in. If Northwest Housing Development does not own property in the area you choose to live in you'll be put on a list then notified when property is ready.
  • You're placed in a building group.
  • When your group has six to ten households your loan applications are submitted for approval.
  • Your application is certified as eligible by a lender.
  • You choose your lot in your group's housing development.
  • You choose your house plans. You'll have plans to choose from according to the number of people in your household and your lot size.
  • You attend four or five preconstruction meetings.
  • You receive a comprehensive manual detailed with information and instructions for every step of the process and home ownership.
  • Your loan closes.
  • You get your building permits.
  • You begin excavation and constructing the foundation.
  • Framing.
  • Electrical, plumbing and other work by contractors is done while you work on the exterior including siding, painting and porch construction.
  • You complete interior finish work.
  • Landscaping.
  • When all homes are completed final inspections are done.
  • Move into your new home. Congratulations.
